This provides the opportunity to shape the community you live in and be part of something that can potentially help others.
Here are four places to volunteer while getting to know the people around you and learning new skills.
Where can I volunteer in Victoria Harbour?
ESL conversation clubs at Library at The Dock
Volunteer as an English as a Second Language tutor to make a real difference for international students in the community. Library at The Dock hosts ESL conversation clubs once a fortnight to help participants practice and improve their English language and pronunciation skills in a relaxed atmosphere while making friends in their local community. Volunteers need to be native English speakers who can commit to one hour per fortnight for six months. Click here to apply online.
Mission to Seafarers
Want to be part of an organisation that cares for sailors around the world? Mission to Seafarers provide challenging and rewarding volunteer opportunities for people across the country. From conducting research to using your IT skills, there are a number of different ways you can assist the heritage team and help others in the community. Just fill out their volunteer application form and send it to [email protected] to find out how you can support the crew.
The Enterprize Ship is a replica of the ship that brought the first British settlers to Melbourne in 1835. Its mission is to provide everyone with the opportunity to experience life on a 19th century sailing ship. Over 250 volunteers spend time on the wharf – all united by their love of sailing. You can help maintain the vessel while learning the art of tall ship sailing in a fun and collaborative environment. Interested? Email [email protected].
Docklands Community Garden
Do you want to use your green thumb to make our community a better place? The Docklands Community Garden is a small-scale source of organic food for locals that is run by a group of volunteers in Victoria Harbour. The herbs and vegetables are free to pick and you can give back to the garden by watering and weeding plants or taking part in their next working bee. Contact Greg Wise on 0408 818 980 to get back to basics and help the community garden thrive.
