Introduction to MOOCs
Are you interested in learning about free online courses from some of the worlds’ top universities? Then MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) are for you.
 
In this four week series we will be introducing various MOOC providers, the types of courses offered, and guiding you to make sure you get the most out of your MOOC study.

All you need to participate is a valid email address and basic computer skills.

Yesterday today: the role of photography in capturing and telling 20th century history
Responding to the Josiah Barnes WWI image collection held at the Australian War memorial in Canberra, and featured in The Call exhibition at Library at The Dock, join us for a panel discussion about the place of the image in 20th century history.

From capturing to collecting and exhibiting, our panelists Alison Wishart, Senior Curator, Photographs, Australian War Memorial, photojournalist Bruce Postle, former press photographer for The Age and author of the recent (and sold out) book The Image Maker, and freelance historian Alicia Cerreto, will discuss the role of photography in recent history.

ANIMAKE
Join us at Library at the Dock as Melbourne Library Service gets animated!
With animation workshops by 'Oh yeah wow', 'Alina and the Phonotrope' and 'Isobel Knowles paper animation' get some hands on animation skills.
Square Eyes Film Foundation will introduce young audiences to imaginative, original animated film and workshop experiences with screenings of 'Wallace and Gromit', 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gruffalo's Child'.

Crafternoons with the Melbourne Origami Group
Join the Melbourne Origami Group for a monthly ‘crafternoon’ at Library at the Dock. For all levels from complete beginners to advanced, the members of the Melbourne Origami Group seek to further the art and enjoyment of paper folding and would love to have you along to help!

Bring your own craft project to work on or to share with others.
Basic paper and light refreshments will be provided. Fancier paper will be on sale, or bring your own.

Chinese Book Club Morning Tea
Come and join us for morning tea and see our new Chinese books at Library at The Dock.
Meet other readers, have a chat and find some new Chinese books, magazines or DVDs to borrow.

Story Lounge
Story Lounge is a storytime for adults. Hand-picked stories and poems read aloud in a relaxed setting. Slow down and enjoy the simple pleasure of listening.

Story Lounge happens twice a month. Each month, the stories read at East Melbourne Library will be repeated at Library at The Dock.

Free, no bookings required and all welcome!

Docklands History Group
Travel back in time with local historians, collectors, guest speakers and meet other like-minded people at our monthly Docklands History Group. Share a cuppa and stories with other local history enthusiasts and learn about the people, places and industries from times gone by.  Everyone welcome.

25 June Special guest speaker: Jan Molloy
Melbourne is celebrated as one of the world’s most multi-cultural cities and the Immigration Museum offers visitors the opportunity to connect to stories of migration from the 19th Century to the present day. A small portion of  Museum Victoria’s extensive Migration Collection is on display in the permanent exhibition spaces alongside touring exhibitions and Community partnership projects.

Jan Molloy from the Immigration Museum will share the story of the development of the Immigration Museum, located in the  Old Customs House  and recount a number of stories related to the Migration Collection from Museum Victoria.

OpenLab
Melbourne Library Service and Media Lab Melbourne have teamed up to bring you another year of OpenLab artist talks.

OpenLab is designed to share and explore the wonderful world of creative makers. Each talk allows artists, musicians, engineers, performers, and designers to come together and share their work and creative passions with the public and other creatives.

Speakers for each session will be advertised on the Media Lab Melbourne Website and find out more about OpenLab on the OpenLab Facebook page.

Robotics, Making and Electronics
Robotics, Making and Electronics is a program designed to get you up to speed with some of the latest technologies driving maker and DIY culture. Take a look at 3D printing with our series of workshops on printing and design, delve into electronics components and circuits, come along to our drop-in sessions and meet other makers and watch out for our special programs and events along the way.

Library at The Dock Makerspace is a place for you to come and work on your own projects, get advice and meet other makers. Bring in your nerd project today!
