What’s on at Knowledge Market in September?

20 September 2016

Hundreds of people have already taken part in workshops with some of Australia’s most inspirational mentors and facilitators since the community space opened in July this year.

Anyone living in, working at or visiting Victoria Harbour is welcome to sign up for a workshop and learn new skills, meet new people and share creative thinking and ideas – you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s a peek into some of what’s happening at Knowledge Market during September…

Introduction to songwriting | Thursday 22 September

Darina Chakarova, a passionate singer, pianist and choral conductor from Bulgaria is coming to the Knowledge Market this month to run a 2-part workshop on the art of songwriting.

Darina will take you through the fundamentals step-by-step, teaching you the theory of composing music, including the four pillars of songwriting - melody, lyrics, harmony and structure. You’ll then be able to turn the theory into practice, by translating your creative ideas into your own song, which you’ll be able to take away from the workshop.

Suitable for all abilities and levels of musical experience, this is a chance to activate your musical and creative potential with a friendly and supportive teacher!

Make your own vision board | Tuesday 27 September

With the Spring Equinox on 23rd September, this time of year is a new beginning. Late September is the best time to start a vision board, getting your goals set up and integrated into your daily life as the new season begins. Transpersonal Art Therapist, Crystal Lam, is on hand to help you create your vision board and understand the benefits it can bring to your life.

A Vision Board is essentially a collage of pictures, photos and quotes that visually represents what you would like to experience in the coming year. It’s a great way to visualise what you want to achieve, remind yourself of your goals and keep you focused on getting what you want throughout the year.

During the workshop, you’ll work with Crystal to explore different techniques to identify and clarify your goals. She’ll be there to guide you through the process of creating your own vision board, and the tools you’ll need to use to get maximum impact and results.

The fundamentals of storytelling – interactive board game! | Friday 23 September

Social storytellers Spendlove and Lamb are running a workshop where you can learn the fundamentals of storytelling through an interactive board game. Spendlove and Lamb will take you through the components of what makes a successful story, and you’ll work as part of a team to create a narrative with a theme and a compelling message.

Stories are what create and help to maintain cultures, shaping not only how we see ourselves but how we see the world around us. Storytelling is a skill that enables effective communication, and doesn’t need to be a solitary task, sat at your writing desk! In fact, storytelling works best and is most enjoyable when it’s done in a collaborative way. The skills you’ll learn can go on to shape the way you communicate at work, when doing business, or just as part of your day-to-day life.

If you can’t make the storytelling class, Spendlove and Lamb is running a range of classes at the Knowledge Market in September, including Twitterversity and Snapchat workshops, where you can get a handle on the basics of Twitter and Snapchat and how they can benefit your organisation.
