One of Victoria Harbour’s newest businesses is also one of the precinct’s sweetest! Pastry chef, Kep Whitley, is bringing her unique treats to the Docklands to satisfy the sweet tooth of local workers and residents.
Here are five things to know about Kep Whitley:
She’s been doing this for five years
Kep got her start when she left behind a corporate career in the manufacturing industry to chase her dream of connecting her passion for pastry with a profession. This ledd her to train as a pastry chef and bring her creativity to the sweet side.
What she loves about her job
Kep’s favourite thing is seeing people’s eyes widen at the sight of her chocolates, or when she walks out of the kitchen with a decadent ice cream.
Desserts are just one of her creative outlets A long-time crafter, Kep often finds herself absorbed by crafty projects – usually involving shiny, pretty things. With a natural preference for making desserts, this love of all things creative translates perfectly into her business.
This isn’t her first time in Victoria Harbour
Kep learnt most of what she knows about chocolate from Wawa Chocolatier, the previous occupant of her shop. Learning under master chocolatier Jade Anderson, she had the chance to meet the local community in Victoria Harbour and jumped at the chance to join it herself.
The favourite part of her new store is…
The tasting bar. She loves that it’s an opportunity to connect with customers, see them experience something that they may not have tried before, receive direct feedback on her latest products and kick start and brainstorm ideas about new ones.
Kep will be selling an evolving range of hand-painted chocolates and other sweet treats in time for Easter, in addition to luxe ice cream sandwiches and drinks. Her favourite (at the moment) are the chocolate bonbons.
