Four ways to activate your mind in Docklands’ Victoria Harbour

3 November 2017
Key Information

To help encourage all the adults of Docklands’ Victoria Harbour to activate their minds and learn new skills, we have found some of the best local activities you can participate in this month.

When was the last time you learnt something new? Whether it’s trying your hand at visual ecology (yes, it’s a thing) or expanding your brain with future concepts of urban living and imagining the future, Docklands’ Victoria Harbour this month has some of the best events to activate the mind.

The Exchange at Knowledge Market

Shop 8-10, 892 Bourke St, Docklands

RMIT University has moved into Lendlease’s innovation space Knowledge Market to create The Exchange, a 12 month collaboration that will explore the concept of community and new ways of understanding the shared urban environment. You can drop into this year-long ‘living lab’ 10am-5pm Monday to Friday to join the conversation, or attend any number of exhibitions, public workshops, forums and community events as part of a curated program that will  bring these ideas to life.

Find out more about upcoming Knowledge Market events, or follow KnowMa on Facebook or Instagram for updates.

Level 2 Maker Space, Library at the Dock, 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade

If you love a bit of tech with your learning, visit the Maker Space to take part in free tech-based sessions. Options include 3D Printing, Introduction to Raspberry Pi, Adobe sessions and making sound toys. You can also learn how to use Unity, a gaming engine that can also be used for 3D visualisations and virtual reality.

View and register for upcoming MakerBasics events.

Dock Eco

Library at the Dock, 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade

Take a free, lunchtime workshop with visual ecologist Aviva Reed, who will show you how to explore ecological ideas through art. By the end of the class, you’ll understand how organisms interact with their environment and take home an illustration of your ideas.

Each session has a different theme such as water or forests, and seating is limited so you must reserve your spot. Classes are held the first Tuesday of each month, and no experience or prior knowledge needed

Find out more and book your place at upcoming Dock Eco sessions.

JabMMA Fitness

Jab MMA Fitness, Shop 7/818 Bourke St, Docklands

Step out of your usual gym routine with something a little bit different and try some martial arts. The team at Jab MMA Fitness will teach you self-defence techniques while also giving you a tough workout. You might find it hard to go back to your old spin class after a session at Jab!
